The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has selected Intralot Canada Ltd., a subsidiary of Bally's Intralot Group, as its new lottery technology provider following a competitive procurement process, the Crown corporation announced on June 29, 2026.
The agreement covers a multi-year modernization of OLG's core lottery platform, replacing aging legacy software that currently underpins flagship draws including LOTTO MAX, LOTTO 6/49, LOTTARIO, and DAILY GRAND. OLG has stated that the new solution is expected to be fully in place by 2029, with no immediate disruption for players buying tickets during the transition.
What the Modernization Covers
OLG's lottery platform processes the province's draw-based games, instant tickets at retail, and the backend systems that validate winning tickets and pay out prizes. The legacy stack dates back more than two decades and has been incrementally extended as new games and prize structures have been added. According to OLG, the Intralot platform will accelerate the introduction of new games, improve the player experience at retail, and modernize the operational systems that OLG's staff and retail partners rely on.
"We're excited to work together to bring customers even more engaging lottery experiences, with offerings designed to better meet their needs and add more enjoyment to every play," said Duncan Hannay, President and CEO of OLG. "This investment will position us for future growth, modernize legacy systems, and strengthen our ability to give back to the people and communities of Ontario."
Intralot's Track Record
Intralot Group is one of the world's largest lottery and gaming technology companies, with operations in roughly 40 jurisdictions worldwide. Its clients include national and state lotteries across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. The Intralot Canada entity that will lead the OLG deployment is the local subsidiary formed after Bally's Corporation took a majority stake in Intralot Group in 2022.
"Our platforms are built to handle the complexity, scale and security demands of modern lottery operations, backed by decades of hands-on experience running mission-critical lottery systems across global markets," said Robeson Reeves, CEO of Bally's Intralot Group.
No Short-Term Player Impact
OLG has confirmed that draw-based games will continue to operate on the existing framework throughout the transition. There will be no changes for players buying tickets at retail or through OLG.ca during the build-out phase. The Crown corporation continues to support 16 lottery games listed on its website, not including PROLINE sports betting and digital casino products which run on separate platforms.
Earlier in 2026, OLG raised the LOTTO MAX jackpot cap from $80 million to $90 million and added a new $25 million MAXMILLIONS-style tier, with 25 MAXPLUS prizes of $100,000 each. The latest jackpot enhancements are part of the same broader push to keep the lottery product competitive as the Ontario gaming market matures.
Procurement Context
The Intralot selection closes a procurement process that OLG initiated to find a long-term technology partner capable of supporting the lottery's growth ambitions through the end of the decade. Lottery remains OLG's largest revenue contributor, with proceeds funding Ontario municipalities, hospitals, and community programs through the Ontario Trillium Foundation and other public-benefit partners.
OLG's annual payments to the Province of Ontario have averaged more than $2 billion in recent years, a figure that the Crown corporation says the new platform is intended to protect and grow by improving game velocity and retail efficiency once the system is live.
What Comes Next
The Intralot Canada team will begin detailed platform design and integration work in the coming months, with phased deployment expected through 2027 and 2028 ahead of the 2029 target. OLG has committed to publishing further updates on the modernization timeline as the rollout progresses.
For Ontario players, the most visible changes — new games, redesigned ticket formats, potentially new digital channels — are likely to start appearing in 2027 once the core platform is operational and game migration begins.
